Reliance Jio Starts Offering JioFi 4G Hotspot and LYF Smartphones on Jio.com

Ever since its official launch, Reliance Jio has been the talk of the town. After extending the free data offer until March 2017, Reliance is taking another step in the industry by providing JioFi 4G Hotspot and LYF smartphones on its online portal – Jio.com.

Presently, on the website, there are three LYF phones on offer – the LYF Water 11 (Rs. 7,999), LYF Water 8 (Rs. 8,999), and the LYF Earth 1 (Rs. 19,399). Interestingly, all the three devices are listed on a lower pricing than their launch price. Also, the website lists JioFi 4G hotspot device at Rs. 1,999, which is the updated pricing after its first price drop. The JioFi was originally launched at Rs. 2,899 and it got its first price cut in September.

To purchase the devices on Jio.com, buyers need to head to the ‘Devices’ section on the website. Reliance promises to deliver the products within three to five business days. The website also promises replacement for the damaged and defective products within seven days of product delivery.

Jio launched its IP based 4G-LTE (long-term evolution) services on September 5, 2016 and its operations are in the ramp up phase. It recently extended its free offer till March 31, 2017 and may further extend it following aggressive pricing of 4G data and launch of free voice packs by incumbent telcos.

Moreover, the telecommunication services industry in India is exposed to intense competition is capital intensive in nature and is subject to changes in technology and regulatory environment, the agency said. The agency has also assigned Jio’s Rs 100 billion bank loan facilities an ‘IND AAA’ with a Stable Outlook and an ‘IND A1+’ rating.

The agency expects continued adequate and timely tangible support from the parent for RJio’s debt servicing. The agency may reassess the linkages in the event of significant equity dilution by the parent or a longer-than-expected break-even period.

Moreover, to enjoy discounts on the products, users can download the JioMoney App for discount coupons. These coupons can also be availed at the physical stores by showing the coupon code on the app, which is scanned by the store employee. JioFi 2 4G, Lyf smartphones now selling on Jio store

The Jio rollout continues and this time, it is happening through the Jio e-commerce store. After free home delivery of Jio SIM cards, Reliance Jio is now selling Lyf phones and JioFi 2 portable hotspots on its e-commerce store Jio.com. For now only three smartphones are available for purchase on the Jio store.

Update: The smartphones that were listed on the site have now vanished and only the JioFi 2 portable hotspots is now available.
, click on devices tab, select the phone and place the order. The three phones that are listed on the site are Lyf Water 11, Lyf Water 8 and Lyf Earth 1. The company has also listed JioFi 4G portable hotspots at Rs 1,999 on the site. Jio claims to deliver the products in three to five working days and also offers easy replacement of the smartphone within seven days of delivery, in case the delivered product is damaged or defective.

Lyf Water 11: The smartphone sports a 5-inch HD display and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core SoC processor. Lyf Water 11 comes with 3GB of RAM and 16GB ROM which is expandable. The smartphone is backed by 2,100mAh battery and runs on runs on Android Marshmallow. On the camera front, the device comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera.


The smartphone is selling at Rs 7,999 on Jio.com and Flipkart. It is priced at Rs 8,199 on Lyf's official online store.


Lyf Water 8: The phone features a 5-inch HD display and is powered by 1.5GHz octa-core SoC processor coupled with 3GB of RAM. The phone runs on Android Marshmallow and comes with 16GB ROM which is expandable. It comes with 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie shooter. Lyf Water 8 is backed by 2,600mAh battery.
The smartphone is priced at Rs 8,999 on Jio.com and Flipkart. The price is again higher on www.mylyf.com with Rs 9,299.

Lyf Earth 1: This is the costliest of the three phones and features a 5.5-inch full-HD AMOLED display. The smartphone runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop and comes with 3GB of RAM. The internal storage is 32GB which can be expanded via microSD card. Lyf Earth 1 comes with dual rear-camera setup, 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel, and a 5-megapixel selfie shooter. The phone is backed by 3500 mAh battery.

Lyf Earth 1 will cost Rs 19,399 to those buying from Jio.com while on Flipkart it is selling for Rs 18,991. The smartphone is priced at Rs 19,499 on www.mylyf.com.

Facebook Introduces 'Live Audio' Feature

After successfully rolling out the live video feature, Facebook has now introduced "Live Audio" option - like traditional radio or podcasting - in your News Feed where users will be able to broadcast audio directly to the social network.

"We know that sometimes publishers want to tell a story on Facebook with words and not video. Our new 'Live Audio' option makes it easy to go live with audio only when that's the broadcaster's preferred format," said Shirley Ip, Product Specialist, and Bhavana Radhakrishnan, Software Engineer at Facebook in a blog post on Tuesday.

"One thing we've heard is that partners want new formats for going live. We announced Live 360 last week, and today we're excited to announce another way to go live on Facebook," they added.

Facebook has witnessed some Pages find creative ways to go live and reach audiences with audio only by using the Facebook Live API or by adding a still image to accompany their audio broadcast.

"We also know that publishers sometimes go live from areas that lack strong network connectivity. Though we alert the broadcaster if their signal is low, Live Audio presents another option for connecting with audiences in real time from low-connectivity areas," the post read.

New Nokia Flagship Smartphone Images and Specs Leak Online

It seems like Nokia is planning to create a stir in the smartphone market once again. With the news of various Nokia devices already circulating all over the internet, we are still hearing rumors about a Nokia flagship smartphone that could debut in 2017.

A recent post on the Chinese blog, My Drivers, has once again revealed the images of a new Nokia-branded smartphone, which is tow to be released sometime in the next year.
The new leak suggests that the smartphone could be dubbed Nokia P and reveals key design elements of the upcoming device.

In addition, the Chinese blog, which is in possession of the images claims that the Nokia P will likely feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC paired with 6GB of RAM.
It's also expected to come with a 23MP rear camera with Zeiss lens.
While there are no details about the screen size, previous rumors have indicated that the device might come with a Quad HD resolution display. The device should also run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.

However, there is no mention of the price or the launch date as of now. We can just wait for now. More details on Nokia phones will surface online once the company holds a press conference at MWC (Mobile World Congress) Barcelona in February 2017.

Amidst such developments, it will be interesting to see what Nokia has been planning to develop and launch to mark its return to the mobile phone business. You may soon recall, edit messages on WhatsApp

Next time when you send a message intended for your girlfriend mistakenly to someone else on WhatsApp, relax as you may be able to revoke such messages in the near future.

According to the WABetaInfo account on Twitter, the instant messaging app WhatsApp has reportedly added the features to revoke and edit the sent messages in a beta version testing.

“WhatsApp has added in beta the possibility to edit messages that you already sent. It is actually disabled by default and it’s under development,” the WABetaInfo’s tweet read.

But the users will be able to edit only recent messages and not the old ones.

According to the WABetaInfo, the feature is currently available in WhatsApp Beta for the iOS 2.17.1.869 platform.

Last month, WhatsApp launched a video calling feature from India which was rolled out globally to other countries.

The feature is available on all platforms — Android, iOS and Windows.

With 160 million users in India, WhatsApp is available in more than 50 different languages around the world and in 10 Indian languages. Nearly 100 million calls are being made on the platform daily worldwide.

WhatsApp Might Soon Let Revoking and Editing of Sent Messages

It’s been an eventful year for WhatsApp. From adding an endless number of requested features to creating controversies around the globe for its updated privacy policy, 2016 was truly an adventurous period for the popular messaging app. However, it seems like the company isn’t done updating for the year and might be planning some significant improvements for the holidays. According to a report, WhatsApp has added a hidden feature in the latest iOS beta channel which allows users to revoke as well as edit sent messages.

The update version 2.17.1.869 includes several crucial fixes but the major change is surely the ability to retract and modify the sent messages. Although these are hidden and aren’t directly available to the public yet, hence it’s possible that WhatsApp might drop them before releasing. Additionally, the tipster mentions that if the sender revokes a read or unread message, the data which can be just a text or a media file like image/video, will be deleted from the recipient’s phone as well. Furthermore, the build also has a new delete icon next to your status which basically, lets you completely remove the entry as WhatsApp has been also working on a timeline feature. These additions, though, as we mentioned before, are still in their early stages and more importantly the removal of media files of the other person’s phone is most probably a bug of some sorts. However, nothing can be said at the moment. The most important takeaway from this release has to be the revoke option which can be accessed by merely long pressing a message. We’ll have to wait though right now as the feature is quite limited and also, its Android counterpart is yet to receive it. WhatsApp also hasn’t rolled out the timeline update yet which was reported weeks ago. Till then, let’s take the report with a pinch of salt.

Reliance Jio to Launch 'Locate My Device' Feature:

With its introduction in September, Reliance Jio has been making headlines now and then. Recently, we got to hear that the company was extending its Welcome Offer with the introduction of Happy New Year offer with more benefits.
Now, widespread reports about the company's new service have been circulating all over the internet. Though we are yet to receive an official update, according to a TelecomTalk report, seemingly, Reliance Jio may soon introduce a new feature called 'Locate My Device'.
This new feature will basically help users locate their devices with the help of GPS.
This feature might be very useful especially for users who have the habit of misplacing their smartphones frequently.
Significantly, the 'Locate My Device' feature will provide information about smartphone's location history. Users can, therefore, keep a track of location in a list view apart from a map view which will provide more detailed information including the date and time.
If the new feature is made live, then Jio subscribers can make use of this feature by logging into Jio's official website.
Users will just have to click on 'My Account', and on doing so, they will be able to see a few options on the screen including 'Locate My Device'. Currently, this feature may not appear but once it goes live, and users can track their smartphones from the website itself.
Additionally, just in case if a user's smartphone is stolen, Jio will be allowing users to remotely control the device via the JioSecurity app. With the help of this app, users will be able to wipe data or lock the smartphone remotely. This feature might be available only for Android users.
On the contrary, the report has also disclosed that no information on whether this feature will work only on LYF-branded smartphones or will be made available to all the Jio subscribers has been provided.

Pokemon Go to officially launch in India

Five months after the global launch, popularAugmented Reality game, Pokemon Go, is officially launching in India on December 14. Reliance Jio has partnered with Niantac to bring the game to India.
With this partnership, thousands of Reliance Digital Stores and select partner premises in India will appear as 'PokeStops' or 'Gyms' in the Pokemon GO game beginning Wednesday. On Jio's social messaging app, JioChat, Pokemon players have access to an exclusive Pokemon Go Channel. The Pokemon Go Channel will enable Pokemon Go players to collaborate and be part of an exciting community of players with daily tips, contests, clues, and special events.
The Pokemon Go Channel on JioChat is a fun way to socialize with other players and level-up faster. Jio SIM customers will be able to download and play Pokemon GO without incurring data charges, like any other app and content, till March 31, 2017. However, the game is not yet listed on Apple's App Store or Android Play Store in India yet.

Dev Gets Android 7.0 Nougat Running On A Nokia Lumia 520

As most gadget enthusiasts are aware of, the Nokia brand will continue to live on under the HMD Global umbrella, and next year the company will release new Android-powered Nokia smartphones, some of which will be presented next February at Mobile World Congress 2017. But interestingly enough, we now get a glimpse of Android 7.1 Nougat running on an old Nokia Lumia 520 (unofficially), before Nokia and Android will officially come together next year to promote a new generation of Nokia handsets. More precisely, a third party developer somehow got Android 7.1 Nougat running on a Nokia Lumia 520, and shared a video on YouTube showcasing the device’s capabilities under the new operating system.
Before we take a look at the video below it’s important to note that the Android 7.1 Nougat build for the Nokia Lumia 520 is not stable and should not be used as a daily driver. It’s more of a custom ROM in development, and more of a demonstration of how the old Lumia 520 can handle Google’s latest mobile OS. And surprisingly enough, the Lumia 520 seems to handle Android 7.1 Nougat better than expected, especially given the smartphone’s hardware specifications. As a reminder, the Nokia Lumia 520 was released in mid-2013 as a Microsoft Windows Phone 8 smartphone equipped with a 4.0-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 480×800. It features a Qualcomm MSM8227 Snapdragon S4 System-on-Chip (SoC) housing two CPU cores clocked at up to 1.0GHz each, an Adreno 305 graphics chip, and only 512MB of RAM along with 8GB of internal memory expandable by up to an additional 64GB via micro SD. Needless to say, these hardware characteristics are outdated by today’s standards, which makes the fact that Android 7.1 Nougat runs on the device as smoothly as it does that much more surprising. Especially considering that the handset can apparently handle the new multi-window feature in Android 7.1 Nougat without much difficulty.
Once again, it should be reminded that the custom ROM is not polished enough to be used daily, but nonetheless, running Android 7.1 Nougat on the Nokia Lumia 520 is a feat in itself, and the footage below could be considered an unofficial small preview of things to come in Nokia’s mobile world next year.
