Demonetisation: 22 places one can use Rs 500 old notes


As the Government of India has discontinued exchange facility for Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes and people having such notes can only deposit them in their bank accounts now. However, the GoI, according to notifications issued by Union Finance Ministry, has permitted transactions against old Rs 500 notes at certain places further till December 15. But these transactions are not available against Rs 1,000 demonetised notes.
Here are given the places which will allow the transactions against old Rs 500 notes:
One time purchase upto Rs 5,000 from Cooperative Stores.
Recharge of pre-paid mobiles upto a limit of Rs 500 per top-up.
College payment fee in central and state government institutions
School fee payment upto Rs 200 per students in all public schools owned by municipalities, state and centre governments.
Payment of utility bills by individuals and households including water and electricity charges both current and pending.
Toll payments at toll plazas across India will accept demonetised Rs 500 notes from December 3 to December 15.
Foreign tourists permitted to exchange Rs 5,000 against foreign currency with an entry in their passport.
